National Black Bear Festival
June 1, 2024
The event takes place each year on the first Saturday in June on Plymouth’s historic waterfront on the banks of NC’s Amazon – the Roanoke River. Created to celebrate NC Black Bears and educate the public about fun ways to celebrate them.

13th Annual Days Gone By Community event
We will travel back in time to explore and experience history through food, music, arts, and crafts. The event will feature life on a plantation through living history, hands-on historic activities with costumed interpreters, tours of the plantation homes, historic demonstrations, exhibits and carriage rides. Period games and activities available for young children. Artists and vendors are being invited to rent a space on the grounds to sell their wares or food items. Special Admission and guided tour fees applicable.

Somerset Place features The Voice of Seaman and Pvt. Israel Pearce
The Voice of Seaman and Pvt. Israel Pearce Saturday, July 13, 2024 -. Historian, Chris Grimes will provide a lecture to discuss Seaman/Pvt. Israel Pearce’s life story while serving in the North Carolina Continental Line and how he advocated for himself as a veteran in the years after the American Revolution. Israel Pearce was a free person of color, who lived in Tyrrell County when he first enlisted, and a seaman aboard the Ship Caswell, which was in the Virginia Navy. He later served in the 10th Regiment of the North Carolina Continental Line and fought in important battles like the Siege of Charleston and the Battle of Camden. Fees are applicable.

Learn about some of the remarkable women who lived and worked at Somerset Place. The 60-minute special tour will focus on the contributions that enslaved and free women made to the development, maintenance, and infrastructure of Somerset Place. The tour will be offered to commemorate Women’s History Month. A fee of $3 per person will be applicable and group reservations of 15 or more are required.
