National Black Bear Festival

June 1, 2024

The event takes place each year on the first Saturday in June on Plymouth’s historic waterfront on the banks of NC’s Amazon – the Roanoke River. Created to celebrate NC Black Bears and educate the public about fun ways to celebrate them.

Historic Plymouth Walking Tour

Daily, self-guided

A port-town, shaped by water. A hotly contested civil war site. A boat that shaped history. A Brick House, a man named Rhodes and 172 plots laid out as the beginning of Plymouth. This walking tour of downtown Plymouth takes you through the most critical streets in Plymouth and shows you just where history was shaped. Less than 2 miles on flat, mostly-paved and even ground. Printed maps available at the Bear-O-Lina Welcome Center on Water Street. Digital Maps available.

Somerset Place Tours

Tuesday - Saturday, upon request or self-guided

See what life was like on this historic 1700s plantation. Visitors explore the lives of the plantation's owners, enslaved community, employed whites, and free blacks during Somerset Place's 80-year lifespan under slavery.
